authID Lands Major European Retailer for Workforce Biometric Verification

In a significant validation of its enterprise strategy, authID has announced it has been selected by one of Europe’s largest retailers to deploy its biometric identity verification platform across its workforce. The customer, which ranks among the top twenty retailers globally, will use authID’s technology to secure employee onboarding and streamline password resets for thousands of its international office and store staff.

The deal represents a critical win for authID, directly reflecting the company’s strategic pivot to focus on securing large-scale enterprise contracts. The deployment leverages authID’s Proof and PrivacyKey solutions to deliver high-assurance, passwordless authentication, addressing key operational and security challenges for the retail giant.

“authID’s mission has always been to make identity verification not only secure, but also effortless, privacy-preserving and, most importantly, accessible at scale,” said Rhon Daguro, CEO of authID. “By being integrated with one of the world’s largest retailers, we are proving that enterprises can effectively protect their workforce with authID’s cutting-edge biometric technology that puts privacy first.”

The Enterprise Challenge: Securing a Distributed Workforce

Large, multinational retailers face a unique set of identity management challenges. A distributed workforce with high turnover rates creates a constant stream of onboarding and offboarding events, while the operational costs associated with forgotten passwords and helpdesk support can be substantial. The retailer’s early results from the authID deployment point to a clear and immediate return on investment.

According to the announcement, the implementation has led to a “sharp reduction in failed password reset attempts, improved onboarding and verification rates, and decreased reliance on manual helpdesk interventions.” These outcomes not only enhance security but also accelerate user productivity and lower operational support costs. The solution integrates seamlessly with the retailer’s existing IT infrastructure and accommodates a wide range of government-issued documents, providing the flexibility needed to onboard a diverse, international employee base.

The deployment is the latest example of the growing trend of leveraging biometrics in enterprise security, where the business case for moving to a passwordless authentication model is becoming increasingly compelling.

The Technology: Privacy-First Biometrics

A key element of the authID platform is its “privacy-first” architecture, a crucial differentiator in markets governed by stringent data protection regulations like the GDPR. The company’s PrivacyKey technology does not store any raw biometric data. Instead, it creates a biometric hash during enrollment and uses public and private key cryptography for subsequent authentications, ensuring that sensitive personal information is never held in a central repository.

The process begins at onboarding with authID’s Proof solution, which verifies a physical government ID against a live selfie, incorporating sophisticated liveness and deepfake detection to prevent spoofing. For ongoing authentication, such as password resets or system access, the Verified solution matches a new selfie against the biometric hash created at enrollment. The company touts impressive performance metrics, including a biometric processing time of 700 milliseconds and a false match rate of one in one billion.
