Welcome to FindBiometrics’ digest of identity industry news. Here’s what you need to know today:
Mobile Authentication
Samsung has announced its latest foldable smartphones, the Galaxy Z Flip4 and the Galaxy Z Fold4. In addition to enhanced camera systems and batteries – not to mention the unusual folding screen design – each device features a side-mounted, capacitive fingerprint sensor. A recent poll of Android Authority readers found a strong preference for authentication via side-mounted fingerprint sensors in comparison to back-mounted and in-display sensors.
1Password launched the latest mobile version of its eponymous password manager platform, 1Password 8. Available for both iOS and Android, 1Password 8 supports biometric security, allowing users to access their password vault with a face or fingerprint scan. 1Password raised $6.8 billion in a Series C funding round earlier this year.
Border Screening
Clear’s expedited passenger screening solution has now been deployed at the Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport. While Clear has been working to expand its biometric screening platform in areas like venue access, airport deployments remain a central focus, with MKE being the 45th airport to join Clear’s network.
Surveillance
Iveda has announced a set of four contract wins in Taiwan totaling about $3 million in gross revenues, including a project to update access control, video surveillance, and facial recognition systems for the Taiwan Stock Exchange. The contracts were announced alongside a $5 million private placement arranged with institutional investors.
Corporate Changes
Estonia-based Veriff has revamped its brand with a new logo and redesigned website. The selfie authentication specialist announced that its new branding is meant to reflect “the company’s next level of growth within the ever-evolving security and identity fraud landscape.”
Aware, Inc. has a new Chief Revenue Officer. Craig Herman comes to the company from 3Play Media, an audio captioning and transcription technology company. He has also held senior positions with 360insights.com, Localytics, and ExactTarget, a Salesforce company. Aware CEO Bob Eckel said that Herman’s experience would be leveraged to “drive repeatable revenue growth.”
Earnings
AuthID reported sustained revenues and a much deeper net loss for the second quarter. Revenues came in at $0.1 million for the quarter ended June 30, the same figure reported in Q2 of 2021. The company’s net loss, meanwhile, went from a loss of $3.0 million in Q2 of 2021 to a loss of $6.4 million in the latest quarter. AuthID CEO Tom Thimot said that “macroeconomic headwinds” had “resulted in longer sales cycles than anticipated” for the company’s Verified Consumer solution, whereas interest in its Verified Workforce solution “is a bright spot”.
