ASSA ABLOY Acquires Brazilian Time and Access Specialist

ASSA ABLOY has acquired Control iD, a São Paolo-based company specializing in biometric access control and time and attendance devices. Among the latter’s solutions are a time and attendance kiosk with a built-in fingerprint scanner and a face-scanning access control terminal.

The Swedish company framed the acquisition as a strategic ‘reinforcement’ of its biometric access control portfolio, with ASSA ABLOY VP Lucas Boselli noting that Control iD’s “innovative biometric technologies, especially facial recognition, fills several gaps in our existing portfolio”.

It’s the latest of multiple acquisitions undertaken by ASSA ABLOY in recent years. In early 2020 it completed its acquisition of Biosite, a UK-based biometric access control specialist; and that came after ASSA ABLOY had acquired Crossmatch in 2018.

ASSA ABLOY is notably the parent company of HID Global, which offers its own lineup of access control solutions, and which acquired fingerprint biometrics specialist Lumidigm in 2014.

Control iD, for its part, was founded in 2006, and now has a workforce of about 300 employees. In announcing the acquisition, ASSA ABLOY asserted that Control iD had seen sales of about 130 million Brazilian Reals (roughly $24.9 million USD) in 2021 and had “a good EBIT margin,” adding that the acquisition will be accretive to earnings-per-share from its completion, anticipated for the fourth quarter of this year.

Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
