Arkansas Mobile IDs Now Accepted at TSA Checkpoints Nationwide

Arkansas residents can now use their mobile driver’s licenses and state IDs at Transportation Security Administration (TSA) checkpoints across more than 260 U.S. airports, marking a major expansion of digital identification acceptance for air travel. The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (DFA) confirmed that TSA testing was completed in early August 2025, enabling statewide deployment of the contactless verification option.

The digital credential program, launched in March 2025, allows any Arkansas resident with a valid driver’s license or state ID to download the free Arkansas Mobile ID app. More than 30,000 Arkansans have enrolled since launch, giving them a secure smartphone-based version of their physical credential.

“The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration is focused on streamlining and improving the services we provide Arkansans,” said Jim Hudson, Secretary of the Arkansas DFA. “Using Mobile ID to board a flight will make travel easier for citizens. We encourage Arkansans who have not obtained their Mobile ID to take advantage of this innovative, free tool.”

How TSA acceptance works

At TSA’s ID checkpoint, Mobile ID allows both identity and same-day flight status to be confirmed without presenting a boarding pass, though travelers will still need a boarding pass for gate and airline procedures. The technology is designed to speed up document checks and reduce physical contact during verification.

The program will expand in early fall with integration into Google and Samsung digital wallets, followed by Apple Wallet compatibility at a later date. Future wallet support aims to make the credential more widely accessible and easier to store alongside other digital documents.

Part of a broader national trend

Arkansas’ move follows similar developments in other states. Louisiana’s LA Wallet recently gained nationwide TSA acceptance, while Iowa added Google Wallet integration to its mobile ID program. TSA acceptance of mobile IDs varies by state, and travelers should check program eligibility before flying.

The DFA emphasizes that its mobile ID offers secure, contactless verification and that REAL ID requirements apply to both physical and digital credentials for U.S. air travel as of May 7, 2025.
