Argus TrueID has announced the acquisition of another Australian biometric services provider. Queensland-based Biometric Identity Solutions is now under the Argus TrueID umbrella thanks to a deal that reflects Argus’s current mergers and acquisitions strategy.
Argus TrueID provides identity and security solutions for industries ranging from banking to criminal justice. It is also one of the fastest-growing companies in Australia according to the Australian Financial Review.
“[Biometric Identity Systems] have long been recognised for their biometric expertise, particularly in the Justice and Corrections sector,” said Argus Executive Chairmain Ken Farrow. “With the synergies that exist between the two organisations, it made sense to bring BIS into the wider Argus TrueID group, contributing to our ability to grow both here and internationally.”
Biometric Identity Solutions will keep its brand name under the new arrangement, though it will consolidate its sales efforts and collaborate on research and development with Argus.
The Australian government has had an uneven history with biometrics in recent years, pulling support for a major biometrics project despite ongoing concerns about data security. With its latest acquisition, Argus is hoping to change some of those misconceptions.
“Any challenge that requires certainty of identity can be solved with biometrics,” said Farrow. “Our focus is to continue to educate the market.”
