Malaysia-based Iris Corp. and Norway-based Zwipe are looking to partner up, according to a report from The Edge Markets.
Iris Corp. specializes in iris-based biometric authentication, particularly in the area of access control; while Zwipe focuses on fingerprint recognition and payment cards. The two companies are going to explore the possibility of biometric smart card applications in Malaysia.
At a media briefing, Iris Corp. co-founder Chas Yap asserted, “We are looking towards a future where we merge finance and ID together.”
For Zwipe’s part, CEO Kim Humborstad said the companies are “both working together in government identification and in the payments area,” adding their collaboration could extend beyond the Malaysian market.
The partnership’s announcement comes in the wake of Zwipe’s first public demonstrations of its pioneering biometric payment card solution at this week’s Seamless Asia expo in Singapore, suggesting the company succeeded in generating some excitement with the new development.
