On Monday Microsoft announced its plans to launch the Windows 10 operating system on July 29. Available for a limited time as a free upgrade to users who already have genuine Windows 7 and 8/8.1 devices, the newest Microsoft OS will bring with it a number of features including built-in biometric security and a virtual assistant.
Windows Hello is a biometric security platform that supports multimodal user authentication. Adhering to FIDO Alliance standards, the security feature allows Windows users to forgo password logins in favor of a stronger and more convenient security standard.
Yusuf Mehdi, corporate vice president of Windows and Devices Marketing at Microsoft comments on the global launch date: “Windows 10 was built to empower people to do great things. We are thrilled to celebrate the launch of Windows 10 with our fans. We’ll mark the launch of Windows 10 by celebrating the people and organizations that upgrade the world every day — and by helping them do more in their communities.”
With the launch of Windows 10 on July 29, Microsoft will also kick off its Upgrade Your World initiative. Partnering with 10 global and 100 national nonprofit organizations, the year long project is aimed at the eponymous mission of upgrading the world through technology, investment, development and awareness.
Microsoft’s focus on improving the world through outreach and technology is in keeping with the posturing of Windows 10, which in addition to being extremely accessible, is also optimized to function as part of the Internet of Things via home-automation technology.
