Healthcare IT security specialist Imprivata has a new client in its roster, the company has announced. WCA Hospital, of Jamestown, New York, is now using Imprivata Confirm ID, the company’s signature platform for the electronic prescribing of controlled substances (EPCS).
The hospital has decided to implement the solution in an effort to improve efficiency and patient satisfaction while reducing the risk of fraud associated with traditional paper prescriptions. In addition to streamlining accordance with DEA requirements regarding EPCS identity management, credentialing, and so on, Imprivata Confirm ID also offers a number of two-factor authentication modalities, including fingerprint biometrics and Imprivata’s Hands Free Authentication system, a proximity-based solution that automatically transmits one-time passwords from a mobile device’s Imprivata ID app.
In a press release, Imprivata reports that since its implementation of Imprivata Confirm ID, WCA Hospital has seen a rise of 67 percent in what it terms ‘Meaningful Use’ prescription rates, and has also “improved clinical workflow efficiency, increased provider satisfaction, and enhanced the patient experience by enabling a single, convenient method to get all their medications.”
The deployment could be seen as part of a broader trend of digitization in the healthcare industry, which is particularly affecting areas like medical imaging, patient records management, and even front-line patient identification. As Imprivata continues to market its solutions to the healthcare industry, the WCA Hospital case could prove a useful demonstration of their benefits.
