As the end of May approaches so we must bring to an end Voice Biometrics Month 2016, our four-week featured focus on voice and speech recognition technologies. Throughout the month we explored topics regarding the contactless modality in our featured articles section, reported all the most important voice authentication news, and brought together the industry’s leading experts for a live panel discussion in our latest webinar, Voice Biometrics in a Hyper-Connected World.
Getting Started
We started the month off with a primer designed to get you up to speed on all the recent major developments and trends in the voice biometrics landscape. New applications of speech recognition tech and voice command; the close relationship voice recognition has developed with face biometrics; the strengthening presence of voiceprint authentication in the call center; how voice technology is integrating with the burgeoning Internet of Things—these topics are all covered in our first Voice Biometrics Month 2016 article, along with links to relevant news stories and market research.

The Hyper-Connected World
As the voice biometrics market converges with connected Internet of Things (IoT) tech, champions of the technology are heralding the contactless modality as the answer to the long standing question of how to secure the IoT. In week two of Voice Biometrics Month 2016, in the featured articles section, we examined why voice recognition is ideal for bringing identity to the machine-to-machine network. IoT was also a major focus in our latest webinar, Voice Biometrics in a Hyper Connected World, which brought industry leading experts together to discuss the current voice recognition market landscape.

Voice Biometrics Applications
Voice biometrics is among the more versatile biometric modalities when it comes to potential areas of application. Thanks to its software-based nature and the proliferation of microphones that can act as sensors, voice recognition technology can be deployed almost anywhere you’re able to speak out loud. In week three of Voice Biometrics Month 2016, we threw the spotlight on four unique applications of voice authentication and identification that help illustrate just how flexible this type of biometrics can be.

Voice In The News
Voice biometrics also made the industry news in May. Primarily we were seeing new deployments of voiceprint authentication by banks in their call centers for customer authentication—a trend made all the more relevant in the wake of a new report from Pindrop showing that caller fraud is on the rise. In addition to financial call center deployments, we also reported on voice command in the smart TV market, learned of an upgrade to Sensory’s AppLock (which uses face and voice authentication), and saw AGNITIO named a Cool Vendor in VoIP authentication by Gartner.
