Vision-Box’s biometric Automated Border Control (ABC) security screening technology is now being used at Copenhagen Airport, the company has announced. The system has been implemented in cooperation with Denmark-based Biometric Solutions.
The system is being used to offer self-service security screening to EU citizens with ePassports entering or exiting the Schengen area. The system uses facial biometrics to quickly authenticate passengers’ identities, matching the image data on their passports to their live images captured on camera at the eGates. The system is based on the same biometric concept underlying Vision-Box’s various other border control projects as the company continues to market its Orchestra platform to government clients.
The Copenhagen Airport deployment is part of a four-year framework agreement into which Vision-Box and Biometric Solutions entered along with the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs back in 2014, but it helps to address a serious issue that has escalated over the last couple of years—the wave of refugees entering Europe and the Schengen free-travel zone. While the biometric screening will help to make the processing of everyday EU citizens more efficient, it will should also offer more sophisticated security for Danish authorities.
