Another happy Precise Biometrics customer is back for more of its Tactivo devices – the US Department of Defense. The government body’s Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) has decided to order 920,000SEK-worth of additional equipment, placed through Precise Biometrics’ partner supplier, Carahsoft.
It’s actually the third time the DLA is ordering Tactivo readers, having first tried out 1100 of the devices last December, and subsequently ordered 1200 units (valued at 1.1 million SEK) in May of this year. Given that the readers are essentially casings for iPhones and iPads that enable smart card access control for sensitive data – compounding the security already offered by the Apple devices’ Touch ID biometric authentication – their utility in the US military and security agencies is obvious. In a statement, Precise Biometrics CEO Håkan Persson commented that the DoD’s order “shows their confidence and commitment to Tactivo for convenient and secure mobile access to information systems and resources,” adding that the Tactivo reader solution “increases employee flexibility and efficiency, while ensuring a high level of security by utilizing two-factor authentication.”
The Tactivo readers are also starting to prove popular in the field of healthcare, where Precise Biometrics has also recently enjoyed a re-order from a National Health System foundation trust in Britain. That order followed one placed in May, and given that the readers were recently approved for use in Sweden’s healthcare system, their popularity could soon extend further into Europe.
