The Transportation Security Administration has brought 11 additional airlines into the fold of the TSA PreCheck program.
There are now 30 airlines participating in PreCheck, which uses biometric authentication to offer expedited security screening to participating travelers. The newest airlines to support the service are Aruba Airlines, Avianca, Boutique Airlines, Emirates, Key Lime Air, Miami Air International, Southern Airways Express, Spirit Airlines, Sunwing, Virgin Atlantic, and Xtra Airways.
The announcement comes in the wake of news that CLEAR, another biometric passenger screening program, is expanding to several new airports across the country. The TSA is not in competition with CLEAR, of course, but its private sector partner, MorphoTrust, is a bit of different matter. MorphoTrust and CLEAR are also now in competition in the area of entertainment venue security, with MorphoTrust having recently expanded PreCheck to this area.
Meanwhile, the expansion of TSA PreCheck to new airlines should help to offer some peace of mind to travelers and security officers at a time when the US border situation is particularly volatile.
