Biometrics specialist Tascent has announced a new peripheral that can bring sophisticated biometric technology to the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6s.
Called the Tascent M6, in form it’s a black case that fits around the iPhone. But despite its compact, pocket-friendly design, it packs a punch with its embedded biometric scanning technology, offering face and voice scanning, as well as fingerprint scanning via Integrated Biometrics’ FBI certified Sherlock sensor. A more comprehensive configuration, meanwhile, adds iris scanning to the mix, with a dual-eye iris capture capability.
In a statement announcing the device, Tascent suggested the M6 has “applications ranging from consumer travel and financial services to public safety and humanitarian aid,” adding that it’s “already in use in a variety of applications around the world, including humanitarian aid, public safety, and time and attendance.” The company also quoted International Council of Tourism Partners President Geoffrey Lipman as attesting to the device’s use in automated, biometric screening at airports, calling the M6 “an ideal complement to these automated systems”.
With the radical transformations underway in the area of air travel industry, and mobile solutions being sought in the many other areas at which Tascent is targeting its new device, it appears likely to find some interest in the Tascent M6, especially given the massive popularity of the iPhone 6 and 6s.
