EyeLock’s iris recognition technology will be integrated into a high-tech vending machine thanks to a new partnership with ViaTouch Media.
The latter’s ‘Vicki’ vending machine will be unveiled to partners and potential investors at a private event this Thursday, and will subsequently be showcased at January’s Consumer Electronics Show. The machine uses an interface similar to the increasingly popular voice assistants found in smartphones and smart home devices such as Apple’s Siri and Amazon’s Alexa. It’s designed to talk with customers and tell them about special offers via interactive media, and at the same time it can monitor what products they look at as they use the machine.
Now, EyeLock’s new partnership will see the company’s iris recognition technology integrated into the smart vending machine, for use with the First Data online payment network. That means Vicki will be able to biometrically identify and authenticate customers as they interact with the machine, adding a convenient yet effective layer of security to transactions.
Vicki will be available for order starting in January, with ViaTouch Media planning initial deployments in certain universities, hotels, retailers, hospitals, and in Apple Stores for use by Apple employees. Machines upgraded with EyeLock’s technology are expected to arrive early in the second quarter of 2018.
