Fingerprint Cards and Precise Biometrics have a new customer in the mobile market. SK Telecom has incorporated their biometric technologies into its new smartphone, the Luna S.
For FPC’s part, the company’s FPC1145 sensor is being used to enable fingerprint scanning. In a statement announcing the integration, the company highlighted the sensor’s “3D pixel sensing technology”, which it says “reads virtually any finger: dry or wet.” CEO Christian Fredrikson also lauded SK Telecom’s growing stature, saying it has “extensive experience in mobile network technology and service and are rapidly moving beyond the Korean market to become a global Information and Communication Technology leader.”
Meanwhile, through its long time licensing agreement with Fingeprint Cards, Precise Biometrics has provided the algorithm software for the Luna S’s fingerprint scanning—its flagship Precise BioMatch Mobile platform. In its own statement, the company declined to name the “South Korean vendor” incorporating its technology, but indicated that the integration should begin to generate licensing revenue for the company starting in Q4 of this year.
The integrations highlight not only FPC’s and Precise Biometrics’ strong positions as biometrics technology providers to the mobile market, but also that market’s increasing appetite for such technology.
