The FIDO Alliance is highlighting the benefits of FIDO-based authentication with a new case study on Korea’s Shinhan Bank. The financial institution recently enabled fingerprint authentication based on FIDO standards on its Sunny Bank mobile app.
With the app, the bank was looking to enable its customers to perform a range of actions on their smartphones, including potentially sensitive transactions such as loan applications and opening new accounts. As such, it needed a secure authentication system, and to that end it worked with Raonsecure, a provider of biometric mobile security based on FIDO standards. Together they implemented a mobile authentication system called OnePass, which enables effective mobile authentication while keeping users’ data safe by securing their biometric information on their mobile devices.
The FIDO Alliance has seen substantial increases in the number of companies embracing its authentication specifications, with particularly strong growth in the Asia Pacific region following its major interoperability testing event in South Korea earlier this year. Shinhan Bank is emblematic of these trends, and of the growing enthusiasm for advanced authentication security across multiple industries and around the world.
