Sensory Inc. has teamed up with the Alexa Voice Service (AVS) team to bring “Alexa” wakeup to devices using its TrulyHandsfree technology. That means users who are familiar with the voice-controlled AI assistant will be able to turn on compatible devices just by saying its name.
Most of those users will probably be familiar with the system from its integration into Amazon smart home products such as the Amazon Echo. Alexa’s capabilities have improved over time, and the system has made considerable strides since Amazon opened its software to third-party developers so that new capabilities, or “skills”, could be introduced.
Now, developers working with Sensory’s TrulyHandsfree technology, which has been incorporated into multiple platforms to enable voice activation for devices, can leverage three different Alexa voice models from the AVS for Raspberry Pi Github project. One company already taking advantage is Nucleus, developer of an Alexa-enabled intercom, whose founder and CTO Isaac Levy attested in a press release that “[t]he performance and accuracy benefits of Sensory’s wake up voice models for Alexa have been fantastic.”
The new AVS-Sensory partnership could help to bring Alexa to a range of new devices and platforms, which could further reinforce Alexa as one of the leading platform for voice-based AI as such technology becomes an increasingly important interface for the IoT.
