SecuGen Announces UN20 Serial OEM Sensor

Optical fingerprint technology vendor SecuGen has announced the first product in its recently announced Unity Biometric Development Platform (BDP) family: the UN Serial OEM sensor. It is slated for release in Q1 of 2016 and will be demonstrated at the upcoming Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas from January 6 to 9.

Commenting on the latest release, Won Lee, CEO of SecuGen, asserts, “The UN20 Serial is the first of an amazing new product line, the Unity Biometric Development Platform (BDP). The UN Serial is a low cost stand-alone optical fingerprint sensor that boasts high performance along with its affordability. Combining SecuGen’s FAP 20 certified fingerprint technology with the company’s high performance extraction and matching algorithms (which are themselves NIST certified), the UN Serial sports 1GHz CPU and supports an open Linux development environment. The last of these features is particularly useful for developers, allowing for the addition of special functionality. In other words, it’s very fast, it’s very flexible and it’s very accurate.

“The UN20 Serial is not just a sensor, it is an entire development platform,” explains SecuGen’s VP of Engineering Dan Riley. “The uses for this product are nearly limitless. It represents a giant leap forward in OEM fingerprint technology.”

While the UN20 Serial is the first entry the Unity BDP product line, it is just the beginning, according to SecuGen. Over the next few months the company will be releasing more products for Unity BDP that feature new interfaces and hardware expansion boards, further characterizing the line’s flexibility.
