Safran Identity & Security has announced a new version of its award-winning MorphoAccess SIGMA fingerprint scanning terminal that is optimized for rugged deployments. It’s called MorphoAccess SIGMA Extreme.
The device boasts IK09 impact resistance on its touchscreen, which is also designed to automatically adjust to ambient lighting conditions. The device also features a large-area optical fingerprint sensor to facilitate ease of use, and a loudspeaker for operation in noisy conditions. And, of course, it uses Safran’s fingerprint biometrics technology, which the company says has achieved a top ranking for accuracy in National Institute of Standards and Technology testing.
Its most critical quality, though, is its ruggedness. In a statement announcing the new device, Safran asserted that it is “specifically designed to operate in harsh conditions, resisting rain, snow, dust and salt mist.” The company added that the MA SIGMA Extreme is suitable for “challenging environments” like “mines, seaports, airports and industrial sites.”
Safran Identity & Security will showcase the product at next week’s ISC West security expo in Las Vegas.
