Safran Tech Used in Two Recent Biometric Votes in Ivory Coast

Safran Identity & Security technology played a critical role in recent biometric votes in Ivory Coast, the company has revealed.

Authorities used Safran’s technology to register the biometrics of 6.3 million voters, and to authenticate those voters in two recent votes – a constitutional referendum at the end of October and a parliamentary election on December 18th. Biometric authentication was performed using Safran’s MorphoTablets, 30,000 of which have been supplied to Ivory Coast’s Independent Electoral Commission over the past two years.

Commenting in a statement, Safran Identity & Security CEO Anne Bouverot said her company was “proud to have assisted once again” in Ivory Coast elections, adding that the company’s experience and expertise allows it to “directly contribute to a democratic national voting process in this country.”

With Safran having assisted the IEC since a 2015 presidential election, its work in Ivory Coast is another testament to the trust Safran Identity & Security has earned in providing biometric election technology to government agencies, with Mexico’s National Electoral Institute also having recently renewed its relationship with Safran in a new biometric polling contract.
