Financial Biometrics Month continued last week at we counted down the remaining days to our upcoming webinar, Biometrics Beyond Payments. In our featured articles section we examined some emerging biometric FinTech solutions involving voice authentication, smart cards, and more. Meanwhile, in the industry news, we were talking about behavioral biometrics and banking thanks to an expansion of BioCatch’s anti-fraud platform on behalf of a UK bank.

The modality with the biggest share of headlines this week was fingerprint recognition. Suprema announced that its new BioMini Slim 2 scanner features the world’s slimiest optical fingerprint sensor while its Suprema’s BioEntry W2 fingerprint-based access control solution was recognized with an Innovative Achievement Award from Detektor International. NEXT Biometrics won a smart card fingerprint sensor order from an unnamed government client, Precise Biometrics released its Q3 results while also confirming a much anticipated rumor, and Fingerprint Cards was named Sweden’s fastest growing tech company by Deloitte.

Fingerprints, Part 2 – Mobile Device Integrations
In addition to the aforementioned fingerprint-centric headlines, last week also had the usual influx of mobile device sensor integration news. Fingerprint Cards had its sensors launched on handsets from Vivo, OnePlus, and Huawei, the last of which was another under-glass deployment. Synaptics had integrations of its Natural ID fingerprint sensors too, its technology finding its way onto new phones from Sharp and a tablet from ASUS. Precise Biometrics provided the algorithm software on many of these deployments, adding interesting common thread to the week’s mobile sensor integration coverage.

ImageWare Systems announced GoVerifyID Enterprise Suite last week, a scalable and multimodal Software as a Service identity management solution that works on the Windows ecosystem. The company also released its Q3 2016 financial update, and had its biometric technology launch as part of Fujitsu’s Smart Origination platform.

Driver Biometrics
A new report from Frost & Sullivan brought connected car biometrics into the spotlight last week, stating that advances in biometrics stand to radically transform the automotive experience. Coming at cars from a different angle, Vision-Box announced last week that its biometrics platform is being used to issue driver’s licenses in Lithuania. Contactless Biometrics
Caller authentication made the news last week with Interactions, LLC, announcing a new voice biometrics system, while NICE won the Saddletree Research 2016 Kachina Award for its own call center solution. Contactless authentication specialist FST Biometrics was given an innovation award by Frost & Sullivan too, while facial recognition startup FacioMetrics was acquired by Facebook. VeriTran, in the meantime, added contacless biometric security to its offerings courtesy of Sensory’s TrulySecure solution.
