It is the end of July which means it’s time to say goodbye to the first month of our summer event: The Road To Biometrics UnPlugged. August will hold a new focus as we enter the second phase of preparation for the Tampa summit, so now is the time to take a look back and review what we focused on during Road2BUP: Commerce.
Talking About The Next Generation
This first month of Road2BUP made it clear: things are changing in finance in a real way. Real deployments are being seen around the world as the promise of biometrics offers convenience and security for the end user. New innovations in mobility are making payment easier too, while biometric point of sale solutions are promising to tie you to your financial information like never before. Here are the feature articles in which we explored these topics.

Too Big For Just One Site
The Road To Biometrics UnPlugged is not just about FindBiometrics, the event is being brought to you in conjunction with Acuity Market Intelligence and our sister site Mobile ID World. As such, Mobile ID World hosted it’s own articles, taking a more mobile-focused eye to next generation commerce. Of particular interest is the recent interview with BIO-key International’s VP of corporate development, Jay Meier on the current state of deployments in mobile banking and mobile payments.

Commerce In The News
Commerce at the intersection of strong identity management is heating up in the news too. Throughout July we reported on a number of biometric commerce news items, from expansions into retail POS deployments, to endorsements from Visa and an entire slew of mCommerce news over at Mobile ID World. Here are some of the top news stories featuring commerce and biometrics from the past month.

Next Generation Of Commerce At The Movies
Meanwhile at the FindBiometrics Pop Cultural Identity Management blog, July gave us a chance to feature at two examples of fantastical cyber crime in the movies. First we took a look at Terminator 2: Judgement Day in which the eventual savior of the human race jackpots an ATM using an ATARI Portfolio. After that we examined the idea of the movie hacker as perfectly represented in Swordfish, going on to speculate what kind of benefits that the mainstreaming of biometric commerce will have on genre films.
