“Designed as an all-in-one smart card that can support payment, access control, and ID applications, The Card features an embedded fingerprint sensor that can biometrically authenticate a cardholder as the card is used…”
Precise Biometrics‘ algorithm software is being used in ‘The Card’.
It’s a biometric smart card solution from Korea-based ManeulLab, and was demonstrated at the recent Trustech industry event in Cannes. Designed as an all-in-one smart card that can support payment, access control, and ID applications, The Card features an embedded fingerprint sensor that can biometrically authenticate a cardholder as the card is used, allowing for enhanced security over traditional PIN-based card security.
That sensor has been provided by Fingerprint Cards, Precise Biometrics’ longstanding hardware partner. FPC sensors have been combined with Precise Biometrics software on a wide range of smartphones and other consumer devices, and the combination is increasingly finding its way into smart cards, with the companies’ technology having been integrated the MeReal V2 smart card earlier this year.
In announcing the use of its Precise BioMatch Embedded software in ManeulLabs’ new solution, Precise Biometrics noted that The Card hasn’t yet seen a commercial launch and as such there is no “immediate financial impact” for the company. But it’s a sign of business to come, with the emerging biometric smart cards market poised to blossom over the coming year.
