Precise Biometrics‘ Precise BioMatch Mobile technology is going to power the fingerprint sensors of two new smartphones in what may be the company’s highest-profile integration to date.
While Precise Biometrics declined to name the smartphones in question in a press release, it did indicate that the integration came by way of partner sensor hardware maker Fingerprint Cards (FPC), and that the two mobile devices are “from a leading American technology company.” It just so happens that FPC just announced its FPC1025 fingerprint sensors are being used in Google’s new Nexus smartphones, the LG-manufactured Nexus 5X and the Huawei-made Nexus 6P.
One reason that these are such significant integrations is that these smartphones are the first to use the new Android Marshmallow OS, which features native fingerprint scanning capabilities in its API. With Precise Biometrics’ technology in place, via FPC’s sensor, the devices are poised to fully leverage those capabilities.
Speaking on the integrations, Precise Biometrics CEO Håkan Persson said his team is “very proud of the confidence the company has shown to us by integrating Precise BioMatch Mobile in two smartphones,” adding that the development “strengthens our position as the leading supplier of fingerprint software for mobile devices and gives us good prospects for continued positive market development among other vendors.” Indeed, and with an already strong hold on the Asian OEM market, those “other vendors” could increasingly be based in other regions of the world as the companies’ market presence expands.
