“Ultimately the aim is to enable contact and contactless biometric payments for AirPlus’s 49,000 corporate clients worldwide…”
AirPlus’s new biometric payment card uses Precise Biometrics software, the latter has revealed.
The dual interface payment card was announced last week. It features an embedded fingerprint sensor care of Fingerprint Cards, a longtime hardware partner of Precise Biometrics. The two companies first entered into a licensing deal to combine their technologies for smart card applications in early 2016, and this summer their first deployment was realized in the MeReal V2 card, deployed at the Pleinair Casino in France.
Now, AirPlus, a company specializing in corporate travel and entertainment expense solutions, is trialling both companies’ technologies – a sensor from Fingerprint Cards’ FPC1300 series, and Precise BioMatch Embedded algorithm software. Ultimately the aim is to enable contact and contactless biometric payments for AirPlus’s 49,000 corporate clients worldwide, though the companies haven’t announced a timeline for the project.
Precise Biometrics software could see many more payment card deployments in the future thanks to Fingerprint Cards, with the latter having lately demonstrated its interest in the market with its announcement of a new smart card-focused sensor module, and affiliations with two major industry alliances involved in the payments sector.
