“Safran’s plans to sell its biometrics business are no secret as the company seeks to refocus on its core activities related to aerospace, but it is keeping tight-lipped about the current negotiations.”
Safran is selling its biometrics business and could close the deal by the end of the month, according to a new Reuters report.
Citing an unnamed source “close to the process”, Reuters says the deal could be worth over two billion euros, and that a shortlist of companies bidding for the business arm includes Gemalto and Oberthur—two companies already heavily involved in the digital authentication market—as well as investment and equity firms including Bain Capital.
Safran’s plans to sell its biometrics business are no secret as the company seeks to refocus on its core activities related to aerospace, but it is keeping tight-lipped about the current negotiations. Safran launched a company-wide rebrand this past summer, with the former name of its biometrics and security division, Morpho, changed to Safran Identity & Security.
The company that ultimately acquires it will take hold of one of the biggest global names in biometric technology, with a portfolio ranging from SIM provisioning to experimental payment technology to various security solutions.
