“…Agnitio has made a name for itself with its own voice biometrics technology, garnering acclaim in a Gartner report earlier this year.”
Nuance Communications has acquired Spanish voice biometrics specialist Agnitio, reports Expansión.
The terms of the deal have not yet been disclosed, but Nuance’s previous owners are evidently satisfied with the deal. According to Expansión, a partner at Nauta Capital, one of the firms that owned Agnitio prior to the deal, called Nuance the “international leader in voice biometrics.”
It’s certainly a major player. Nuance’s speech and voice recognition technology has seen a range of applications, from wearable technology to bank call-in centers; more recently, the company has been getting into the increasingly busy area of voice-based AI assistants. And for its part, Agnitio has made a name for itself with its own voice biometrics technology, garnering acclaim in a Gartner report earlier this year.
It isn’t clear what Nuance has in mind for the future with respect to this latest acquisition, but with the speech and voice recognition markets heating up in a number of sectors, it appears to be a good time for such a company to be solidifying its technological resources.
