Google has launched two new Nexus smartphones: The Nexus 5X, manufactured by LG, and the Nexus 6P, which was made by Huawei. The devices were unveiled along with Google’s new Chromecast products at a San Francisco press event yesterday.

Essentially, the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P are standard and premium versions, respectively, of basically the same device. The 6P sports a metal chassis, a 5.7″ screen, and a Snapdragon 810 v2.1 processor; while the 5X has a plastic body, a 5.2″ display, and a Snapdragon 808n processor – and it’s about $120 less expensive than the 6P, which is priced at $499 USD. Both devices feature a 12.3 MP camera.

Each of these models also features Google’s Nexus Imprint – a OneTouch FPC1025 fingerprint sensor powered by Precise BioMatch Mobile algorithms. Given that these are the first smartphones to use the Android Marshmallow OS, their integration of fingerprint sensors means they are positioned to fully take advantage of the native biometric capabilities built into the operating system’s API. It also means they are ready for to support the Android Pay mPayment platform right out of the box.
