NEXT Biometrics announced today that it has expanded dramatically, having hired ten new engineers who have been added to the company’s teams in Seattle, Prague and Taipei. According to NEXT, the engineers have been hired from leading industry companies. The company has used this new expansion of its top level workforce to underline its attractiveness as an employer of tech professionals.
“We have experienced a massive growth in customer projects and need to grow our organisation to serve these,” says NEXT CEO Tore Etholm-Idsøe. “ Over the last months hw/fw/sw engineers from Microsoft, ASIC designers from Cypress and FAE’s from ST Micro and Qualcomm have joined NEXT. We are of course very pleased to see that NEXT is perceived as an attractive employer by top class technologists”
NEXT Biometrics has been seeing increased popularity as a sensor manufacturer thanks to what it has called “The Apple Effect” in previous releases. Thanks to the public acceptance of commercial fingerprint sensors on top tier smartphones, NEXT has received a number of important design wins.
At this week’s Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, NEXT demonstrated its fingerprint sensor in concert with the LPC54100 microcontroller from NXP Semiconductors. The demo showcased always-on sensor processing on a smartphone, something made possible through NXP’s focus on low-power consumption.
“NEXT continues to enter into partnerships with world leading players targeting proven and robust high levels of security and convenience at a low cost,” remarked Etholm-Idsøe. “This process has been ongoing for a long period, and this demonstration with NXP marks another milestone in the process to improve the security of mobile devices.”
Biometrics had a massive presence at this year’s Mobile World Congress, which focused largely on digital identity.
