Lithuania-based biometrics specialist Neurotechnology has put its MegaMatcher On Card algorithm through a major test. The algorithm software was submitting to the National Institute for Standards and Technology’s Minutiae Interoperability Exchange (MINEX) III evaluation, and it “successfully passed all the mandatory steps of the evaluation protocol,” according to a statement from Neurotechnology.
That means the technology is compatible with important standards associated with the US government’s Personal Identity Verification (PIV) program, which could help to open it up to some major market opportunities. As its name suggests, MegaMatcher On Card is designed for smart card applications, an area of rising interest to other fingerprint biometrics specialists like Fingerprint Cards and IDEX, and one that could become particularly heated in the government sector.
The NIST doesn’t yet have a MINEX evaluation specifically designed to test smart cards, so Neurotechnology’s technology had to be tested against standards associated with PC-based solutions. For Neurotechnology’s Business Development Manager, Antonello Mincone, that helps to prove its quality: “Meeting the same criteria with our MegaMatcher on Card algorithm affirms to our customers that high quality, accurate and reliable fingerprint recognition can run efficiently on very small, secure microcontrollers embedded in smart cards or other tokens used in fields like National ID projects or payment applications products,” he said.
