One of the primary reasons behind the increasing traction biometric solutions are seeing right now in private, public and consumer markets is that data is in need of protection and passwords, PINs and security tokens are too easily compromised to secure the information that makes the world go around. We are starting to see biometrics protect even the information of consumer end-users, so it is no surprise that on an enterprise level, where information pertains to matters of national security and public safety, strong authentication is becoming standard in both physical and logical access control.
To this effect, NEC Corporation of America – who recently was recognized by Frost & Sullivan for its leadership in entering the mainstream biometrics market – has taken steps to raise its visibility as a protector of mission-critical information: announcing today that it has joined the IJIS Institute as a sustaining member. The organization is nonprofit and focusses on the sharing and safeguarding of such critical information, and in associating itself in such a supportive role, NEC is making a public commitment to good corporate citizenship and also to aid in the Institute’s special projects in the mandate described above.
“I am pleased to welcome NEC as a Sustaining Member,” says Steve Ambrosini, executive director of the IJIS Institute. “Companies that join the IJIS Institute as Sustaining Members distinguish themselves as leaders in the field of information sharing through proactive involvement in Institute committees, events, and business development efforts. Our Sustaining Members are committed to engage in IJIS Institute programs and projects that will advance the national capability to achieve effective information sharing and safeguarding across communities of interest.”
As a sustaining member, NEC will also be experiencing a number of benefits. Recognition on the IJIS Institute website and promotional materials, access to exclusive invite-only meetings with government and industry leaders, a company specific briefing by Institute staff and expanded allowances for event attendance and participation.
NEC Corporation of America has stated its pleasure in joining IJIS as a sustaining member. The company has a long history of working in the sectors that the Institute supports. It’s automated fingerprint identification system (AFIS) has received a wide range of deployment internationally.
As part of the findBIOMETRICS Year in Review, Raffie Beroukhim, the vice president of NEC’s biometrics division gave an informative summary on the company’s product development successes in 2013. As the company aims to roll out its new innovations in identity technology, the benefits of a higher profile will be a great boon.
