America’s National Cyber Security Awareness Month is coming up, and the National Cyber Security Alliance (NCSA) and the Anti-Phishing Working Group (APWG), with support from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), are launching a global awareness campaign to help users stay secure online. It’s called STOP. THINK. CONNECT.
Among the campaign’s core messages are advisories urging individuals to take advantage of online privacy and security settings, and ensuring software is up to date. It’s also urging users to take advantage of two-factor authentication where it’s available—advice that echoes some of the well-respected guidelines from the FIDO Alliance.
To that end, NCSAM organizers, in collaboration with the Council of Better Business Bureaus, have arranged a special presentation in Wichita called “Two Steps Ahead: Learn to be safe at work and at home”. It’s just one of numerous digital security events being held across the country, with a full list of events available online from the NCSA.
Organizers have also launched a participation program called NCSAM Champions, with businesses and interested individuals invited to sign up and receive free support materials relating to digital security. These and the many other efforts associated with National Cyber Security Awareness Month should help to bring many businesses and users up to speed as the fight against digital threats continues.
