MedixSafe has announced a new line of safes, lockers, and cabinets designed specifically to store and track narcotics. The MedixSafe Vanguard 2 products are aimed at both medical facilities and ambulances.
All of the products in the Vanguard 2 line offer wireless connectivity with mobile devices, allowing administrators to monitor the stored narcotics remotely and at any time. They also offer SQL server database integration and automatically track all user activity, allowing for a reliable audit trail. Additionally, the products can be configured to send automatic mobile and PC alerts to administrators when any narcotics are taken out, when a user without access is trying to open the safe, or any other activity is recorded.
Biometric technology is increasingly being used to secure restricted narcotics and medications. Rx Safes is another company offering a biometric lock box for medication storage, though that company’s products are primarily intended for home use. There are more general-purpose biometric lock boxes as well, of course, but medical professionals tend to opt for specialized equipment, and we’ve already seen how this technology has seen more heavy-duty deployments in hospitals’ internal infrastructure.
