NEXT Biometrics has inked a major distribution agreement for its USB fingerprint scanners with a new German partner. MTRIX has agreed to sell the devices in not only Germany but also Austria and Switzerland.
The agreement pertains to NEXT Biometrics’ Scallop and Oyster fingerprint scanning devices, which are designed to offer plug-and-play functionality with computer devices thanks to their USB connectivity. According to a statement announcing the distribution deal, MTRIX will target the devices to the “banking, insurance, point-of-sale and healthcare markets”. The companies are also jointly exhibiting the USB solutions at this week’s IT SA expo in Nuremberg.
Commenting on the partnership, MTRIX CEO Malte Kahrs lauded NEXT Biometrics as “a leader in high performance, cost efficient fingerprint authentication,” while NEXT Biometrics CEO Ritu Favre said her company expects “to scale and grow our business of USB fingerprint scanners” with the help of “MTRIX’s long-standing reputation as an authentication solution expert in the region.”
News of the agreement comes as NEXT Biometrics continues to see growing momentum in its emerging biometric smart cards business, suggesting that while that area offers a high level of market excitement, NEXT Biometrics’ more traditional fingerprint scanning devices will remain an important component of the company’s business activities.
