Recent recipient of the Frost & Sullivan North American Company of the Year 2013 Award for government biometrics, MorphoTrust USA has been working with the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) for over eight years, offering enrollment and registration services across the country. Today the Safran company announced that it has now achieved Final Operational Capability (FOC) for the transition of TWIC enrollment operations to the TSA’s Universal Enrollment Services.
TWIC, or Transportation Worker Identification Credential, is biometric information containing document that grants shipping employees authorized, unescorted access to high security areas. The system uses captured face and fingerprint data, combined with card holder history, to vet transportation workers, making sure that national security is not threatened by giving them access to critical spaces.
MorphoTrust began transitioning TWIC to Universal Enrollment Services in April of this year, averaging about 20 turned enrollment centers per week, totalling 147 at the writing of this article.
The Universal Enrollment Services, as the namesake implies, is not only for the TWIC program, and MorphoTrust will be aiding the TSA in expanding the standard to other areas in need of biometric accreditation. The Hazardous Materials Endorsement Threat Assessment Program (HTAP) for instance – a system set to better monitor drivers transporting dangerous cargo – is expected to reach FOC by MorphoTrust later this year.
Additionally, as the TSA’s Universal Enrollment Program provider, MorphoTrust will also be offering biometric registration for the Travel Security Administration’s TSA Pre✓ express air travel screening application process.
