Thanks to biometric technologies developed by MorphoTrak, a US subsidiary of identity solutions leader Morpho (Safran), the first nationwide palmprint identification system has been created as a part of the FBI’s Next Generation Identification (NGI) program.
Improvements to NGI that became operational in May incorporate Morpho’s latest algorithms, matching latent fingerprint, palmprint, and friction ridge areas of the hand, vastly improving the efficiency of forensics applications. Now, with the MorphoTrak-supplied expert workstation, crime-scene prints can be matched at a greater volume, with greater accuracy, and at faster speeds than ever before.
Because of the captured friction-ridge area of the hand, a print that until now has not been searchable in the FBI’s database, criminals and terrorists will be captured and cold cases resolved at improved rates, on with this solution serving over 18,000 local, state, tribal and federal law enforcement agencies across the United States.
Morpho is the primary supplier of biometric technology to the FBI, and as such it has long been focussed on the improved matching of latent prints. These new advances in biometric technology are available in the new multi-modal MorphoBIS identification system, not only for the FBI to use, but for any law enforcement agency looking to get the technological head start on crime and terror.
