Morpho Revamps Victoria Police Biometric Capabilities

Morpho (Safran) has been contracted to refurbish the biometric capabilities of Victoria Police in Australia, the company has announced.

It’s a deepening of a 12-year relationship between the company and the municipal police department. To date, Morpho has already provided 72 police stations with fingerprint and palmprint scanners; now, the latest contract will see fingerprint, palmprint, and facial biometrics kiosks installed at as many as 92 Victoria Police locations.

Commenting on the contract in a statement, Morpho Australia managing director Tim Ferris said the company’s “proven expertise in Australia played a major role in winning this new contract,” and commended Victoria Police for expanding its biometric capabilities, asserting that the force “is once again a technology pioneer and one of the best equipped police forces in the world.”

The company’s biometric identification technology has proven popular around the world. Its MorphoBIS AFIS system was ordered by the Zambia Police Service last month, for example; and shortly before that Morpho subsidiary MorphoTrak received an order from the Massachusetts State Police. In Australia, the company has recently provided biometric technology not just for police services but also for border scanning at airports.
