Another Meizu smartphone has integrated a fingerprint sensor from Fingerprint Cards (FPC). The new Pro 5 device features the FPC1155, a touch-based sensor.
It’s a continuation of a longstanding trend that has seen FPC sensors prove exceptionally popular among Asia-based smartphone makers. Meizu, a Chinese OEM, is a returning customer, having recently incorporated an FPC sensor into its MX5 smartphone at the start of the summer.
While FPC has recently shown interest in expanding its reach beyond Asia, the new Meizu order suggests that its core Asia-focused business model remains solidly in place. It’s also worth noting that most big-name smartphone makers are based in the region, with Apple being the major exception.
In a statement on the new integration, FPC CEO Jörgen Lantto called Meizu “a leading smartphone manufacturer in China” and highlighted the quality of the FPC1155 sensor, saying it “supports 360 degree finger rotation capability, fast response time and industry leading 3D image quality.”
