Pictures of what may be the next Meizu mobile device have leaked ahead of the anticipated June 30 announcement of the company’s Meizu MX5. The device shown in the leaked images appears to have a metal chassis, and an oval cutout for a home button that may feature a fingerprint sensor.
If such speculation is born out, it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise. Increasing numbers of smartphones are adopting fingerprint sensors, both because the technology has become increasingly cost-effective and because Apple’s pioneering work with the Touch ID system has helped to make the biometric technology standard on contemporary mobile devices. And with the rise of mPayments looming and the forthcoming Android M OS sporting native fingerprint sensor capabilities, it only makes sense for smartphone makers to start incorporating the technology so that their devices will be compatible with popular apps requiring such functionality for user authentication.
It’s also worth noting that Meizu is no stranger to such technology; and the company gets special credit here with the rumoured low price of its new device, at somewhere just under $300 USD. Speculation also suggests that the forthcoming device will have a 5.5-inch 1080p display, 3 GB of RAM, and a Helio X10 processor.
