IDEX is celebrating a major new integration of one of its fingerprint sensors. The company’s Cardinal Q is powering the fingerprint biometric scanning of LG’s new Stylus 2 Plus smartphone.
LG is, of course, a major name in consumer electronics, and as such the integration is a big win for Norway-based IDEX. Commenting in a statement, IDEX CEO Dr. Hemant Mardia called it “a significant validation of the IDEX value proposition,” adding that his team is “confident this will pave the way for additional design wins with our competitive sensor product portfolio in the coming quarters”.
Given LG’s recent progress in developing its own in-house fingerprint sensor technology, its selection of an IDEX sensor for a new flagship device does seem to suggest high esteem for the technology. For its part, IDEX claims that the Cardinal Q, along with its newer Cardinal N sensor, “have the smallest silicon footprints in the market”, which should appeal to other mobile OEMs seeking to save valuable real estate in their hardware designs. And given that the company recently licensed Precise Biometrics’ highly popular algorithm software, it should be able to make an even stronger case for its technology going forward from this LG win.
