iTouch Biometrics to Provide Tech to Illinois State Police

Having just won a major contract with the Illinois State Police, iTouch Biometrics has announced a new palm and fingerprint scanner that will be particularly useful to law enforcement authorities. Called Digital Major Case Prints, the new product allows for the digital capture of friction ridge detail on the palm of a hand and on the fingers.

The new product is notable for its ability to scan the edges of the palms and fingers, and also for its simplicity and ease of use. As iTouch Biometrics president Gerry Bornhofen says, “It’s three simple steps, collect, capture and submit, and it’s just that easy.” The company suggests that law enforcement officers in particular will benefit from this ease of use while working in the line of duty, and the product is an addition to the iTouch Biometrics’ Accurate-ID live scan system, which is certified by state police and the FBI.

The product launch comes on the heels of the company’s recent deal to upgrade the Illinois State Police’s booking system with their biometric scanning technology and software. It’s another step forward in biometrics’ march into the field of domestic law enforcement; it echoes last week’s news that Bexar County in Texas would be adopting biometric technology into its arsenal, and a general trend worldwide in law enforcement authorities’ desire to implement such technology to fight crime and protect against terrorism.
