ISC West opened with a bang yesterday. Boom! Percussion kicked things off with a performance on the main stage, and the show floor opened with the fire of confetti cannons.
From there, attendees flooded the new Unmanned Security Expo, and the Connected Security Expo, where FBI Cyber Security Section Chief Philip Celestini outlined the vulnerabilities of the emerging Internet of Things and other digital security issues. Later in the day, the SIA New Product Showcase Awards were doled out across 30 categories, with CrucialTrak’s multimodal Biometric Access Control System (BACS) taking the Best New Product Award.
It’s no surprise that a biometric solution took the opening day’s top honor, given the growing sophistication and prominence of such technologies. Accordingly, FindBiometrics spent much of the first day of ISC West speaking with biometric specialists on hand at the event. MorphoTrak Biometric Access & Time Solutions Business Unit Director Gary Jones spoke with FindBiometrics President Peter O’Neill about his company’s new, rugged MorphoAccess SIMA Extreme solution and the increasing popularity of its MorphoWave Tower, as well as broader changes in the industry. And Princeton Identity CEO Mark Clifton discussed Samsung’s use of his company’s iris recognition technology in its newest flagship smartphones, as well as Princeton Identity’s first new product – the IOM Access200 – since becoming an independent company last summer.
As usual, the ISC West exhibition floor was a who’s-who of biometric physical access solutions providers. Check out some day-one highlights in the gallery below:
Clearly, it was a very busy first day, and the momentum is set to carry forward as ISC West rolls along through the week.
