…And Other Highlights from the Show Floor at ISC West
Each year the ISC West Conference awards best products, including in the category entitled “User Authentication, Identification, Credentialing and Management.” In 2016 the award went to Advanced Optical Systems (AOS) based in Huntsville, Alabama for their innovative touchless four-fingerprint system ANDI On The Go.
With a rich set of experience in delivering military and homeland security products, AOS was the first company to convince the FBI to certify a touchless fingerprint system. AOS pointed out that as many as 54 individuals per minute can be authenticated using two devices. AOS points out that taking fingerprint on the go at walking speed could dramatically reduce wait times for such applications as border management.
Another impressive highlight of the show comes from SoloInsight based in Chicago, Illinois. SoloInsight’s core intellectual property is an advanced face + iris algorithm and search engine that was developed based on years of key field experience and lessons-learned implementing real-world large scale border management and ID programs in the Middle-East.
SoloInsight partnered with Microsoft to implement some of MicroSoft’s platforms and tools with biometric-based identity solutions for the first time, including building on the Azure’s IoT Suite infrastructure optimized for the Internet-of-Things.
SoloInsight was highlighting their partnership with Fujitsu at ISC West having recently integrated Fujitsu’s palm vein technology.
Fujitsu was showing off their recently released and ruggedized Stylistic V535 Industrial tablet for demanding markets like healthcare and financial services.
The Stylistic V535 Industrial features an 8.3 inch tablet that runs on Windows 8.1 Pro and features NFC technology allowing it to read smart cards. The Stylistic V535 Industrial is water and dust resistant. It also converts to a notebook via an attachable keyboard, and supports GPS tracking and 4G/LTE connectivity.
HID Global was showing their new Lumidigm product that combines fingerprint and smart card verification plus built-in highly sophisticated cryptographic processing and a companion toolkit. The impressive list of features includes AES, TDES, and RSA cryptography, PKCS digital signature support, a secure hash algorithm (SHA), HMAC (variable key size), random number generator, unique device identifiers, remote and factory key loading support, configurable secure memory for key storage, multiple secure transaction models, secure boot, and encrypted firmware updates.
Previously Lumidigm sensors were deployed in ATMs in Brazil and the updated program statistics publicly available were impressive indeed: approximately 100,000 ATMs supporting more than 50 million bank customers executing more than 2 billion transactions per year.
Anviz was proud of their new compact, indoor/outdoor iris physical access device, the UltraMatch S1000, that incorporates the BioNANO iris algorithm and ARM Cortex processor. The device touts a smart LED system that gives more granular feedback to the user regarding the proper verification distance. It also supports both RFID cards and contactless smart cards using a dual antenna design, and WiFi wireless management. At only 7.09 x 5.55 x 2.76 in. it is one of the smallest stand-alone full featured iris system we have come across.
Another cool product release came from the BioConnect / Suprema booth. It is reportedly the world’s first mass production Android-based, biometric-based physical access control terminal, the BioStation A2. It touts a 1GHz quad-core processor, 1GB SDRAM + 8GB eMMC memory, 5-inch touchscreen with navigation keys, reinforced quartz glass cover, 24-bit speaker audio system and condensing microphone, RFID and contactless smart card dual antenna system, 2MP wide angle camera and full live finger detection on the OP5 fingerprint sensor.
The BioConnect Identity Platform enables the BioStation A2 to integrate with practically any physical access control or time and attendance system in the market.
A recent entrant to the US market, with 15 years of customer experience and engineering in Isreal, is IdentyTech (based in Florida). IdentyTech provides fingerprint, facial, iris and palm vein hardware and software optimized for solution providers and systems integrators.
IdentyTech’s facial surveillance system was very impressive having been field proven in one of the biggest safe city projects world-wide.
Beyond those features above, multiple physical access control system and solution providers, including IP camera providers, featured biometric functionality in their products and booths primarily using fingerprint, face, iris or vein technologies. No doubt that biometrics is proving to serve the physical access control providers well with biometric providers obtaining a level of maturity not previously experienced.
