Digital video management company WavestoreUSA and facial biometrics developer Herta Security have teamed up to show off their integrated technologies at this year’s ISC West conference and exposition. The companies will demo their solutions, the BioSurveillance NEXT v2 and Wavestore’s Video Management Software.
The two technologies complement each other well. Herta’s BioSurveillance NEXT v2 is a GPU-based facial recognition system; when it scans a face, Wavestore’s technology automatically dates and stores it with relevant recorded video. At the same time, Wavestore’s technology can send automatic alerts to security personnel. The system is also capable of sending alerts when a face is detected that it does not recognize, allowing for security to be notified when an unauthorized person has entered a highly sensitive area, for example. It’s a versatile system, and in a press release both companies were keen to emphasize that, asserting that depending on clients’ particular needs, “a WavestoreUSA-Herta solution could take many forms, providing fast, accurate and robust data for anyone with advanced video surveillance, access control or marketing needs.”
It’s a timely offering, particularly with respect to law enforcement and security applications. Use of video facial recognition technology is widespread (albeit somewhat controversially) by police in the UK, for example, given that state’s prevalence of CCTV cameras. And such applications are spreading around the world as well, with a similar deployment recently announced for the city of Bengaluru in India. It’s a wide and growing market for Herta and Wavestore to tackle together.
