Iris ID is providing some of the crucial biometric technology being used in the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agency’s pilot project at a major US-Mexico border.
Located at San Diego’s Otay Mesa Port of Entry, the project aims to use biometric identification on non-US citizens entering and leaving the country. It was first announced in August of last year, and entered its testing phase last month.
Working with automated border control solutions provider Vision-Box, Iris ID has deployed its technology at six kiosks at Otay Mesa. Its Iris ID iCAM D1000 scanners are capable of scanning subjects irises from a distance of 30″, helping to ensure that the system is as non-intrusive as possible.
The pilot project will run for six months, and if authorities deem it to have been a success, it will likely be expanded to other border checkpoints.
