Integrated Biometrics has announced a new optical 10-fingerprint scanner that is small enough to fit into a shirt pocket.
Called FIVE-0, the device is AFIS-compatible and sports FBI FAP50 certification. Like the company’s FAP60 TFT sensor announced last autumn, FIVE-0 uses thin film transistor technology to help ensure that it’s small and lightweight, and its use of an electroluminescent polymer helps to ensure that scans produce high-resolution images.
While the sophistication of its imaging is certainly important, the device was designed with a strong focus on mobility and versatility. Integrated Biometrics says it is resistant to harsh light and sunlight, dirt, heat, and cold. And it can run for hours on power sourced from a smartphone.
FIVE-0 is available as a module for OEM integration, or as a standalone unit with a USB-C port allowing it to charge power through mobile devices, laptops, and other such consumer electronics.
