IDEMIA‘s biometric payment card solution is celebrating a payments industry after a soft rebrand. Formerly dubbed F-Code, the F.CODE Comfort solution has won in the category of “Security – Identity – Authentication” in the Trophées des cartes innovantes 2017 awards.
The solution is at the forefront of an emerging technology trend in the payments industry. It features a Fingerprint Cards fingerprint sensor embedded in the card, allowing end users to biometrically authorize transactions instead of entering a PIN.
IDEMIA’s software was tested in biometric payment card trials this year by Mastercard, helping to pave the way for a commercial rollout for next year; and F.CODE Comfort is also now being tested by Groupement des Cartes Bancaires CB, France’s national interbank network. In a statement announcing the award win, IDEMIA asserted that F.CODE Comfort’s incorporation of biometric authentication into a payment card is “opening the way to raising the limit on contactless payments currently set at €30 per transaction on the French market.”
For its part, Groupement des Cartes Bancaires CB CEO Philippe Lalaunie asserted that in his organization’s testing of the technology, they “are working in particular on the smoothest, but also the most secure, fingerprint enrolment process possible.” The firms have not yet offered a timeline for the solution’s rollout in France.
