“The system is being used to manage the gym’s 40,000 members’ access to facilities, from the main entrance to VIP areas.”
A major gym chain in Iceland is now using iris scanning for access control.
The technology comes by way of Iris ID, whose IrisAccess iCAM7000 system has been deployed across 12 World Class Iceland facilities. The system is being used to manage the gym’s 40,000 members’ access to facilities, from the main entrance to VIP areas.
It’s the same system deployed last year by the Sharjah Co-Operative Society in the UAE, where iris scanning is now used for staff time and attendance tracking. And as in that case, the World Class Iceland deployment is offering some substantial business benefits.
In a statement announcing the deployment, World Class Iceland managing director Bjorn Leifsson said the system “has worked perfectly,” adding that fewer staff are needed to monitor facility entrances, while the gyms now offer “a higher degree of security and have happier customers.” The same technology will be introduced in new World Class Iceland facilities as they open.
