ICE Agents to be Equipped with NEC Mobile Identification Solution

US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, commonly known as ICE, has a powerful new tool at its disposal in its work securing US borders against illegal entry. The organization has ordered mobile biometric identification technology from NEC Corporation of America and federal IT solutions provider Government Acquisitions, Inc. (GAI).

The device in question is NEC’s NeoScan45, a mobile scanning system that will allow ICE agents to collect two- and 10-print biometric data in the field, with the help of GAI’s Mobile ID system. The device can take roll and flat scans, and supports both Android and iOS operating systems. Commenting on the deployment in a statement, NEC VP Raffie Beroukhim stated, “We are pleased to be part of this implementation team and work closely with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in this critical deployment.”

The deal further bolsters NEC’s position in the government and law enforcement sectors of the biometrics market. Together with its recently publicized success in helping the WIN law enforcement conglomerate to investigate cold cases, this new arrangement should help to heighten NEC’s already strong profile.
