“The new device and its under-glass sensor integration were announced at this week’s Mobile World Congress…”
Huawei has launched another smartphone featuring Fingerprint Cards‘ FPC1268 sensor in an under-glass configuration.
The integration demonstrates Huawei’s continuing interest in under-glass sensor technology. With FPC, the company helped to pioneer this technology with a few devices launched toward the end of last year, which all used the new FPC1268 to enable fingerprint scanning from beneath the cover glass of the devices.
Commenting on the integration in a statement, FPC CEO Christian Fredrikson suggested it indicates a continuation of the company’s “strong partnership with one of the industry’s largest players,” adding later, “We’re only in the beginning of the biometric era.”
The new device and its under-glass sensor integration were announced at this week’s Mobile World Congress. Under-glass fingerprint technology has long been a goal of vendors in the mobile biometrics market, only recently having been realized in commercially available handsets. This news, along with other device launches announced today at MWC, suggests that this technology could become an important theme in the major mobile industry event.
